Uit VISIT BRUSSELS : "The parish of Jette- highly dynamic..."

The parish of Jette is highly dynamic, not in the least thanks to the unstinting efforts of Father Dirk, acclaimed for his masses in Brussels dialect and motorcycle blessings. Next to the church, a recently erected monument commemorates the Aramaean genocide of 1915. There is a large community of Aramaeans in Jette, who
were victims of the Ottoman rulers, similarly to the Armenians and other Christians. The Aramaeans, most of whom belong to the Syrian Orthodox church, have a well-attended church (rue Jacobs-Fontaine) where mass is celebrated every Sunday morning in the purest tradition. Next to the parish church, you will also find – even though somewhat hidden – the Centre Culturel d’Averroès), an important mosque, which houses a Quran school and provides homework counselling.
